FARMS AND RESERVES

Bundu Bashing

This small farm can be found just off the Boschkop road in Pretoria East, in the Boschkop/ Tweedracht area. Bundu Bashing hosts a range of activities for its visitors – Fishing, 4x4, volleyball, paintball, clay pigeon shooting, swimming etc. While Jean tried the 4x4 track and some bass fishing, I took the dogs for a walk. The farm includes a strictly no-dogs game camp with some impala and wildebeest. After meeting Lilly and Stitch the owner was kind enough to grant me special permission to take the dogs for a walk there. None of them made much of the game (which you walk quite close to in the small camp), but Lilly made a U-turn and ducked out of sight as soon as we got too close to the horses standing at the fence of the neighboring farm.

We also braved camping (in July!). Bundu Bashing has 4 bass dams with surrounding camp sites which offer braai facilities and the most amazing open air showers, but that’s as far as luxury goes. If you prefer more, they also have wood cabins (in the game camp). Camping sites are spread far apart with enough vegetation to offer ample privacy. We barely saw any of the other visitors on the farm. The untampered-with state of the natural environment puts it miles above traditional camp terrains stacked with camper homes and caravans on not-to-be-disturbed evergreen lawns and strictly no sounds allowed after 20:00 policies.

How does one accommodate dogs on a camping trip if you're not too keen on them sharing a tent with you? Get them their own tent! In the picture below is our doggy tent with Lilly and Bonnie (a previous foster) on a previous camping trip.

I would definitely recommend this venue especially if your dog loves water. Lilly and Stitch are very cat-like in their manner of avoiding water at all cost but even they couldn't resist splashing around in the bass dams.
